Why do people like van gogh

Above you can see the work of Artist Lee Tiller. Tiller is a Contemporary Impressionist who continues the trend set many years ago by the master impressionists. The new contemporary impressionists strive to prove that impressionism is not a dead art form and is still growing and changing with the times.

Tiller's grasp of light and color is amazing and captivates the onlooker. His paintings are crisp and clean and contain all of the characteristics that one looks for in great impressionism while still adding his own aspects. His paintings are undeniably beautiful and prove that Tiller is one of the greatest Contemporary Impressionist artists.

Tiller's work can be seen in galleries around the world as well as in various exhibitions. Tiller like many great contemporary impressionists was influenced by many great impressionists of the past including Vincent van Gogh see the chair picture at far right. Tiller, however is not the only contemporary impressionist that was influenced by Vincent van Gogh. Below you can see 4 portraits painted by Vitali Komrov in the style of Vincent's own self portraits.

Komrov actually painted an interpretation of one of Gogh's bandaged ear portraits you can see it at the far right. Like Van Gogh's portraits these new contemporary impressionist portraits contain the same features while upgrading the color to brighter "candy" like schemes.

Vitali Komarov's artwork is an amazing example of contemporary impressionism with a new modern twist. His paintings are vivid with color and exaggeration. His use of impressionist techniques is amazing and his work is unbelievable. His collection contains hundreds of paintings that shine with Gogh like splendor!

All of his paintings, regardless of subject matter are wonderful. Below you can see more of his paintings that have been influenced by Vincent van Gogh. Both Lee Tiller and Vitali Komarov have taken what Vincent van Gogh created and modified the style to meet their own ideas. Although their paintings are clearly different it is still very apparent that they were influenced by Van Gogh. The future of contemporary impressionism looks bright with such talented artists paving the way.

Vincent van Gogh's Self Portraits have also influenced the sculpture world. I have been very intrigued by this book.

I have always been very interested in Van Gogh and that type of artwork. And he is everywhere you look - my boyfriend has Starry Night on his credit card!

I can't wait to read this book and look more at the real man behind these works! Thanks so much! Great post. I would love the chance to visit the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam! I suppose I will have to settle by reading this book : It sounds incredibly well researched and I'm sure it's wonderful.

Great guest post!! I just won this over at Catherine Delors's blog! I am so excited about this win! Sheramy, this was a terrific post. Of course, way back in high school I read "Lust for Life. As you noticed, I find it interesting that the myths of so many famous people include the idea that the person was some kind of savant who didn't have to work hard educating themselves and practicing their craft.

I guess people love the fiction that success and talent could somehow fall into one's lap -- instead of having to work their tails off for it! A big Congrats on the publication of Sunflowers! Totally awesome guest post! After reading this, I realize my knowledge of Van Gogh is sadly very pedestrian.

I am very interested in reading this book and being exposed to a Van Gogh who is more fully fleshed and human. I am going to be putting this book on my wish list.

I'm so glad you all enjoyed the post -- thank you! I hope you enjoy the book, too. After hearing the hype of Van Gogh, I was holidaying in Amsterdam so went along to view his exhibition. I am an engineer and for me I found his work frustrating to view. Van Gogh appeared to be learning how to paint, his perception of geometry quite horrific, especially within the bedroom painting. Van Gogh struggling to imitate master works of others with the outcome looking more akin to a child's brush strokes.

Van Gogh for me personally was like watching an American Idol contestant who couldn't sing. Some say his work is amazing, well I don't believe the hype. Van Goh sure wasn't making a living from itcat the time.

Throw in the mix madness, tragedy and suicide, coupled with the branding and marketing and there it is I am an electrical and mechanical engineer however I am able to accept someone else's view of the world.

You suggest that you have an inflexibility of thinking through inculcating an 'engineering' way of viewing the world, which is a very narrow way of looking at things. What I believe which isn't a normalised ideation, is that the amount that people spend on art is obscene when we still have hungry children in the world.

However I enjoy my small collection of Ltd Ed prints as I do not have millions of pounds , and I think van Gogh is an artist that portrays the world differently, those with rigid schemas cannot accept any frame of reference except their own. I even accept your frame of reference, I just do not agree as I believe it is rigid thinking that leads to stagnation. My collection is based on the water colour paintings of Gordon King, Sir William Russell Flint and Eric Sturgeon, and from this I have developed my critical skills and 20 years in academia.
